Wow! What an exciting day to be in Year 5. We have been working non-stop to make our Macbeth amazing; full of our ideas and creativity. We were so thrilled with welcome Nick, an actor who has performed at the Globe in London. He helped up with tweaks, tips and exciting additions for our performance. Nick was super impressed!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our letter writing unit around the correspondence between Macbeth’s character. The children’s shared writes were bursting with creativity and they felt proud sharing their work with their CUPS editing partner, when adding the finishing touches.

As part of a lengthy and enjoyable process, we finally got to the stage where we could paint our silk templates of our Antarctic inspired designs!

Year 5 has been buzzing with excitement this week! The children have thoroughly enjoyed their Macbeth rehearsals, immersing themselves in the drama and energy of Shakespeare’s classic play. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm shine on stage. In Computing, we had our first lesson using Micro:bits, and it was a hit! The children learned how to code their Micro:bits to display icons and learned to include use of the buttons to instruct their minicomputer. It was fantastic to see their problem-solving skills in action as they explored the possibilities of coding. It’s been a week full of creativity and hands-on learning. 

We launched our book club this week – we got to drink hot chocolate, read our books and share our thoughts and opinions of our book. We love reading and were so excited about this!

Yesterday, our class embarked on a magical journey to Narnia. We attended a captivating performance of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” at the Leeds Playhouse.

The production was truly breathtaking. The innovative stage mechanics, particularly the awe-inspiring way the White Witch was lifted into the sky, left us spellbound. The life-sized, mechanical Aslan was equally impressive, bringing the beloved character to life. The dazzling lighting design further enhanced the immersive experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and can’t wait to share more details about it with you all.

Year 5 were treated to a very exciting, hands-on afternoon today coordinated by Mr Magnall our sustainability lead and Aqua Consultants (engineers) as part of our 18-month Royal Society biodiversity project. The children worked on 4 projects across the afternoon: building hedgehog houses, bird boxes, insect hotels and composting. There was plenty of opportunity to get involved with the power drills, hammers and saws and the children were fantastic at following instructions and working collaboratively. Who knew there was so much Maths in building… from measuring, angles, shape, depth we discussed so much throughout the afternoon.

This week our class embarked on an exciting adventure to Adel Wood! Armed with nothing but our creativity and a sense of adventure, we set out to build the ultimate den.

We scoured the woodland floor, gathering a variety of natural materials like leaves, twigs, and stones. Some teams even found larger branches to create sturdy frameworks for their dens. The air was filled with laughter and the sound of rustling leaves as we worked together to construct our shelters.

Our dens were judged on several criteria, including stability, aesthetics, weatherproofing, and size. Each team worked tirelessly to ensure their den met these standards.

The children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Royal Armouries Museum today! They had the chance to use weaponry from centuries ago to become great Spartan warriors, to scale sizes of animals used in battle, a live demonstration of sharp weapons used over the ages. The trip complemented our unit this half term, Ancient Greece, beautifully. The children acted out the story of Perseus and Medusa in an immersive and comical workshop.
